What to see in Goa

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to sightseeing in Goa. You could spend your entire holiday exploring places like Fort Aguada, Dudhsagar Falls, Colva Beach, Cabo de Rama Fort, St. Inez Monastery or Basilica of Bom Jesus; there are few south Goa sightseeing places in India with such a rich collection of historical landmarks. If you’ve got more time on your hands though, here’s a quick guide to some of our favorites

The best way to explore Goa

Buses from major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi and New Delhi pass through Goa on their way to another destination. Many of these buses make a stop in Panjim or Mapusa. From Panjim or Mapusa you can get a bus to any part of Goa by traveling just a few kilometers. In addition to private companies there are some state-run services connecting major towns in Goa. Most private buses charge higher fares than public services but are more comfortable and faster than local buses; all of them include air conditioning (very rare among Indian transport) and video entertainment screens.

How long to stay in Goa

If you are considering a trip to Goa, then there are several factors to consider before finalizing your travel plans. As with most things in life, there is no one size fits all answer when it comes to choosing how long to stay in Goa. Generally speaking, if you are looking for a high-energy party destination with many different activity options, you should plan on staying no longer than 4-5 days. If you have more time available (or energy levels that can handle it), then feel free to extend your trip for up to 10 days or so.

Where to stay in Goa

Places to stay in South Goa range from air-conditioned apartments with a kitchenette to five-star beachfront properties. If you want to be close to major attractions, it’s best to book a resort or hotel on North Goa beaches. For centrally located accommodation, head toward Calangute beach—most of its hotels are easily accessible by public transportation and a short cab ride from Baga Beach. Cheap hotels in South Goa are also available; they’re typically guesthouses that operate on a bed-and-breakfast basis or simple budget hotels without amenities like swimming pools or restaurants. However, as popular as South Goan resorts are with tourists, many locals live near them for convenience because of their central location.

Getting Around

Depending on where you’re staying, getting around in South Goa could be simple or a challenge. You’ll probably have no trouble getting around Margao (the capital of South Goa) because most areas are relatively close together. However, if you’re looking to explore other areas like Cavelossim or Colva, it can get confusing and time-consuming. In that case, we recommend hiring a driver for a day—they will be able to show you all of your must-see sights without any delays or issues. Plus, it gives you more time to relax at one of our secluded beaches!

Recommended Stay

Before heading to South Goa for a complete sightseeing tour, it is recommended that you stay somewhere in the Candolim-Baga area, as these two are often considered as a single region called ‘North Goa’. At Candolim-Baga area, one can see several attractions such as Kishkinta Water Park, Panaji City Museum, Mapusa Market or Anjuna Flea Market; all of them are located within one kilometer distance from each other. It is also very near to Anjuna Beach. This place is quiet famous for its beaches and backpackers’ hangout places such as hotels like Residency Hotel.

When to visit

It’s important to consider where you’re going, what time of year it is and your individual preferences. Some people may want to avoid summer holidays when all their friends are back home or school is in session. Others may want to avoid rainy seasons because they don’t like rain. South Goa has many different offerings, but you should have an idea of what type of vacation is best for you before choosing a destination. The best way to do that is by doing some research!
